DLI Bioinformatics Analysis Services

Bioinformatics Analysis Services

Better data. Better analysis. Better investigative leads.

Not all data analysis is created equal. The quality of a forensic DNA investigation depends on more than technology alone. Without a high-powered pipeline to analyze results, the most advanced technologies will only give you more information, not more answers.

Our comprehensive bioinformatics analysis services, including whole genome sequencing analysis for FIGG, mixture resolution, and SNP-to-SNP comparisons, are designed to give more powerful insights and are available either as a standalone solution or in conjunction with lab processing.  Built by experienced bioinformaticians and refined through extensive forensic casework, our range of analytical services consistently produces stronger results and more investigative leads.

Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) FIGG Analysis

Unlock more answers from your sequencing data

DNA Labs International’s proprietary Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) bioinformatics pipeline is specifically optimized for Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy (FIGG). WGS produces extensive amounts of raw data, and where other analyses might produce insufficient data, “matchy” kits, or profiles that cannot be uploaded to public ancestry databases, analysis with the DLI bioinformatics pipeline can often generate substantially more usable information.

Our WGS reanalysis services can:

  • Reanalyze raw sequencing data generated by previous laboratories
  • Process data from multiple sequencing platforms
  • Improve data quality through advanced filtering and quality control
  • Optimize profiles for FIGG analysis
  • Generate upload-ready files for law enforcement-approved genealogy databases

Available as a standalone service or as part of our complete in-house FIGG workflow .

Mixture Resolution

Identify both major and minor contributors in DNA mixtures

DNA mixtures present one of the greatest challenges in forensic genomics. Though traditional analysis might be able to determine whether a mixture is present in a sample, it often fails to resolve the mixture or identify the contributors.

Our proprietary bioinformatics pipelines are designed to identify, evaluate, and resolve mixed DNA samples, providing usable profiles from complex mixtures and the ability to identify both the major and minor contributors. Using a combination of high resolution DNA processing and advanced analytical methods, we’re able to improve data quality and generate cleaner datasets suitable for additional forensic interpretation or genealogy analysis.

Mixture resolution can help:

  • Reanalyze raw sequencing data generated by previous laboratories
  • Process data from multiple sequencing platforms
  • Improve data quality through advanced filtering and quality control
  • Optimize profiles for FIGG analysis
  • Generate upload-ready files for law enforcement-approved genealogy databases

Available as a standalone service or as part of our complete in-house FIGG workflow

SNP-to-SNP Comparison Analysis

Use a SNP profile as an alternative means of identification

When low-template or highly degraded DNA leaves you with insufficient STR data, or a profile that yields zero hits in a criminal database, SNP-to-SNP comparison provides the resolution you need. Traditional forensic DNA testing uses STRs to build a unique profile to identify and compare samples for identification, and SNPs can be used the same way in the right circumstances.

DNA Labs International offers direct SNP-to-SNP comparison from any sequencing platform. To assist in court admissibility, we utilize DBLR (Database Likelihood Ratios) software from PHF Science, the creators of STRmix, to calculate rapid, reliable kinship statistics. This approach evaluates close-to-distant relationships with high precision. Our analysts perform rigorous quality assessment before comparison, ensuring that conclusions are supported by high-quality data and appropriate statistical interpretation.

Applications include:
  • Confirmation of identification through direct comparison
  • Bolstering statistics from other markers
  • Confirmation of identification through kinship
  • Includes statistical analysis of:
    • Parent/child
    • Siblings
    • Half-sibling relationships
    • Grandparents
    • Grandchildren
    • Niece/nephew
    • Cousin
