Here’s how to do it.
You can help law enforcement solve crimes by simply opting in for law enforcement matching on GEDmatch or FamilyTreeDNA. Opting in your kit allows law enforcement to make more connections that might help catch a criminal, exonerate the innocent, or give back names to unidentified remains.
Here’s what you can do to help:
1.
If you’ve already uploaded your DNA into GEDmatch make sure you’ve set your privacy level to “opt-in” in your settings.

If you’ve taken a DNA test already but haven’t uploaded into GEDmatch, first download your data from the site. You can find more instructions here. Then upload your DNA into GEDmatch and select “opt-in”.

If you haven’t taken a DNA test yet, choose a company and order your DNA test kit. Once you’ve received your data, download it, and upload to GEDmatch and select “opt-in” for your privacy level.
